So, it’s your eleventh birthday — & you’re camped out on your sofa, waiting for the mail carrier to bring your Hogwarts letter. Unfortunately, day turns to night, and you’re forced to realize that you’re a muggle, and there’s no place for you at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. But what if it’s not too late? Thanks to Niantic, our Harry Potter dreams are about to come true!
From the makers of Pokemon Go comes Harry Potter: Wizards Unite! After the release of Pokemon Go in July of last year, people were found all over with their phones grasped tightly in hand on a mission to catch ’em all. It was one of my favorite times; as people would come together to help each other find rare Pokemon and help take on the gyms in their neighborhood. The world was just so.. lively. Unfortunately, the popularity started to fade out and people returned to their nests.
But in the upcoming year, I expect these days to return with the release of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Soon, wizards of all houses will appear in their newly-transformed neighborhoods, to search for mysterious artifacts and defeat powerful enemies.
TechCrunch was the first to announce the news of the augmented-reality game, with Niantic later confirming that they will be partnering up with Warner Bros, and their new brand Portkey Games. According to Niantic, “players will learn spells, explore their real world neighborhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies.”
Hopefully Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be released in the first quarter of 2018, because I’m way too excited to become a real-life wizard.
