Becca’s E3 Highlights

It’s my favorite time of the year — ! I feel as if I’m a child who couldn’t sleep the night before, because I just know there’ll be goodies underneath the tree once morning comes; a child who sits snug with coffee cup in hand, staring at the computer’s light just waiting for cinematic and gameplay trailers to begin. Of course, as soon as Microsoft began the show, I had a notebook and pen ready — making sure I had the proper means to make my upcoming video game wishlist. Now, unfortunately, 2017 didn’t create as big a list as the years before, but there were definitely some highlights of E3 2k17. Here are some of my own ‘can’t wait to get my claws on’ games!

Uncharted 4: The Lost Legacy

I still remember the excitement I felt picking up my copy of Uncharted 4 at our local GameStop (quick shout-out to some of the greatest humans I have ever met, ya’ll the best); after a wonderful conversation, I walked out of the store with a copy of the game, a Nathan Drake Funko Pop, and a season pass that promised me more story DLC. Let’s fast forward a year later — I’ve been given several DLC for the multiplayer component I no longer play and the wonderful news that when The Lost Legacy comes out, I get to play as my all-time favorite video game character, Chloe Frazer. Just this, makes all of the waiting 100% worth it. And, I can’t wait to see her paired-up with fellow badass, Nadine Ross! Women who kick ass, my aesthetic.

God of War

Krato’s return to the gaming world was introduced at last year’s E3, and fortunately, showed up again this year for all-new gameplay footage. I have to admit that I’m entirely new to this franchise — as in, I’ve only played God of War 3 after last year’s reveal of the upcoming game. But, it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the visuals and gameplay. I’m looking forward to seeing the changes made from previous entries and discover a new side of Kratos and his relationship with his son.

What a beautiful end to Sony’s conference! Another game that was introduced last year and brought back this year with all new gameplay footage! As a person who was (and still is) obsessed with Rocksteady’s Arkham games, I was so excited to discover that a new superhero game was in development! Especially one that gives me those Arkham fighting-style vibes. This is definitely a game that I’ll be pre-ordering!

Super Mario Odyssey

I have yet to get a Nintendo system since the original Wii, but after watching Nintendo’s conference, the Switch is definitely on my to-buy list. I honestly can’t even remember the last time I played a Mario game that wasn’t on the Super Nintendo. But, here I am, way too excited about Super Mario Odyssey! I mean, hello, dinosaurs and Mario can possess humans? Yes please.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm

—- another character that I love so much takes the spotlight in their franchise! Chloe Price, a girl who I fell in love with and accidentally adopted most of her vocabulary, takes the reigns in this Life is Strange prequel. When the news arrived that this game was in the works, I couldn’t contain my excitement (you can ask Sara, who every time there’s new details, she’s the first person I message or tag) — the only downfall is that Ashly Burch will not be returning to the voice. Hopefully we’ll still get a whole lot of ‘hellas’ in the game.

A Way Out

The makers of ‘Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons’ is back at it with hopefully another amazing game. What caught my eye, is that this is strictly a co-op adventure; either on your couch or via internet. Thanks to the split-screen feature, you’re able to watch a cut-scene from one character, while still playing as the other character in a totally different location! I’m definitely looking forward to trying this one out with a friend.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins

Last year, Ubisoft took a break from releasing another game into the wild, and instead, provided us with a film. Hopefully, that year was exactly what was needed to take this game to its highest potential. I’ve recently started enjoying the Assassin’s Creed franchise — first falling in love with Jacob and Evie Frye, and then backtracking to Ezio and my absolute favorite, Connor Kenway. I can’t wait to explore Egypt and see where it all began!

Far Cry 5

I’m embarrassed to admit that even though I love the Far Cry series, I have never beat a Far Cry game. Hopefully, Far Cry 5 will change that. For me, this franchise has always done an amazing job at developing terrifying antagonists, and yes Vaas, I’m really looking at you; I’m curious to see how this white-cult is set-up and to kick some much deserved ass. Also, bonus points for character customization and a campaign that can fully be played co-op!

Beyond Good & Evil 2

I know nothing about Beyond Good & Evil — not a dang thing, but here I am super excited for it’s prequel, Beyond Good & Evil 2. According to the game’s creative director, Michel Ancel, it’s a “sci-fi space opera,  a game where players fight for freedom alongside unforgettable characters and explore a stunning and vast solar system, all while capturing the spirit of Beyond Good and Evil.” They had me at sci-fi space opera.

This list, of course, doesn’t list every game that got me excited; honorable mentions include: Transference: Enter the Home of a Mind, Super Lucky’s Tale, Detroit: Become Human, Skull and Bones, The Last Night, The Evil Within 2, Battlefront 2, Day’s Gone, and the entirety of Nintendo’s conference. What games are you most excited to play?!
